First Steps

1.  One of the most important things before you even pick up the guitar is you should always make sure you have the nails on your left hand, (or your right hand if you are left handed) cut short.  Don't over do it, you don't want tender ringer tips because you have cut too short.  Please ask a parent to help you if you don't usually do it yourself.  Your nails on the other hand are up to you.  Nails for finger picking, on your strumming hand, can be handy but can also produce uneven volumes and mess your timing up.  So it is usually best to have them both short until you are really good at finger picking.

2. Give your hands a good shake for a few seconds to loosen them up a bit.  Do this every time before you pick up the guitar for a while because there is going to be some hard work for your tendons and muscles.  you are going to use some muscles that you never even new were there. So just as if you were going to do a workout at the gym, you need to stretch and shake your hands as you would your legs and arms.
3.  Now lets have a look at the guitar  ::::Acoustic or Electric::::
